4th Annual Easy RIder SUP Cup

THANK YOU!
Thanks to everyone that came out to the Quiksilver Waterman Collection presents – the 4th Annual Easy Rider SUP Cup.
It was a great weekend of all aspects of Stand Up Paddling.

Saturday morning we held the Worlds First ever Indoor SUP Surf Contest in the Water Park at West Edmonton Mall.
We had 24 men / 3 ladies and 1 junior take part in a fun 3 hour surf contest.
The men were run in heats of 4 – with each surfers top 2 waves scores counting. The top two from each heat advanced on to the next round until we were down to the final four.
The Surf Final was Scott Wilson (who only found about, about the contest the night before. Drove from Jasper on Friday night and slept in the WEM parking lot until we all showed up for the contest), Sheldon Bekolay (who showed off his amazing balance skills by doing head stands while surfing), Trey Currie (who proves that snowboarding and surfing do cross over) and Warren Currie.
The Ladies had a couple of head to head rounds – with eventual winner Charley Bekolay having a great day of surfing.
The Juniors was a solo event for Griffin Currie – who caught some waves, did some tricks and had a great time.
Surf Results are posted below.

Sunday was the Race or Tour on the North Saskatchewan River – and the weather couldn’t have been better. Sun and no wind are a great combination for SUP.
The Race saw 21 men and 3 ladies battle it out over a 15.75 km course that ran from Terwilliger Park to Rafters Landing in the heart of downtown Edmonton.
Overall winner, Warren Currie paddled his Starboard Ace 14′ in a record time of 1:19.47. Des Ross was the winner of the 12’6″ Class (and second overall) in 1:22.18. Corey Jespersen was 2nd in Unlimited and 3rd over all at 1:22.29.
The Ladies Race was won by first year paddler Margo Long in 1:36.42.
Full results are below.

In the Touring class – 17 men, 10 women, and 1 junior had a great time over the 9 km course that ran from Laurier Park to Rafters landing.

From the finish – everyone was shuttled back to Laurier Park for a BBQ, the Awards and the Draw prizes.

A big THANK YOU to all of the sponsors of the event.
