The 25th Annual Easy Rider Snowboard Cup – presented by Burton Snowboards at Panorama Mountain Resort was FREAKING AWESOME!
We had 443 competitors show up to race the legendary Banked Slalom and take part in the Big Air events. (That was not a typo – Four Hundred and Forty Three people showed up!)
Panorama did an amazing job at building the best course in 25 years!
Saturday morning saw the first run of the Banked Slalom take place – while it was dumping snow. Competitors snuck in their race run in between pow runs on the mountain. Later in the day the Big Air event was held with lots of rad tricks thrown down. We had a “man sized” jump as well as a smaller take off for the groms to hit, and fun was had by all.
Saturday evening we held a showing of the Red Bull Supernatural show that had been on TV earlier in the day with a couple hundred people showing up in the Great Hall Lodge at Panorama to watch the riding.
After the showing Lester Quitzau and Billy Hicks took to the stage with some mind melting guitar and drums.
After Lester’s set it was off to the T-Bar Lounge for some good old snowboard contest fun.
Sunday arose to fresh powder and blue bird skies. The Banked Slalom course was open for everyones second run and was nice and fast.
Lester and Billy again entertained on the Lodge deck in the afternoon and that was followed up with the awards and Draw Prizes.
After 25 years of running the funnest event in snowboarding – all I can say is bring on #26!

And Finally – The Banked Slalom Results . . . I am sorry to say that due to several factors (our lengthening of the course / the snowstorm / the huge number of entries / etc) we had a massive timing system failure on Saturday that resulted in the majority of times not being useable. The amazing Staff at Panorama tried very hard, for a very long time to make sense of the messed up data and unfortunately they could not. A few of the times from Saturday did work – and we did have manual back up for them to be verified, so those times do stand.
I am sorry to all those who were counting on their times to prove to their buddies who was faster – we are already working with Panorama and a couple of ski race teams to insure that next years system will work flawlessly.
(The “Timing Fail” note is just that / the DSQ means that you missed a gate in your run / and the DNS means that you did not show up for your run)
